Why do people move? A quick guide to understanding internal migration in Australia

The Centre for International Economics (CIE) was commissioned by the Centre for Population to analyse the drivers of internal migration within Australia and examine the impact of government levers on internal migration.

The report finds government action on internal migration is more effective when it acts to remove barriers to migration, allowing people to move in a way that responds to the other aspects of the ‘bundle’ of factors that drives their migration choices.
